Reuters reports that the Greek economy is forecast to expand by up to 3% in 2024, approaching its pre-crisis level of 2009 and far outpacing the eurozone average of 0.8%. This underscores that officials and investors predict 2024 could be the year that a rebound is finally complete.
But the plan has irked Greece’s neighbor and regional rival, Turkey, while environmental organizations say the initiative doesn’t go far enough, noting that the country also allows environmentally harmful practices such as energy exploration in sensitive marine environments.
Greek-Turkish relations, often tense, have been relatively normal since February 2023, when Greece sent rescue teams in the wake of two devastating earthquakes in eastern Turkey.
“Such actions pose a significant danger to both regional and international security. It is absolutely essential to prevent any further spread of hostilities.,” emphasized the statement.
The investment is part of the EIB Group’s EU-wide Climate Adaptation Plan and follows an initial loan to Greece of 375 million euros in January 2021.
Addressing the Delphi Economic Forum IX, Georgiadis emphasised that "the aim of the ministry is to encourage the holding of clinical trials," adding that there has been an improvement in this direction.
