Greece’s UN envoy, Evangelos Sekeris, announced at a press conference that the presidency will prioritize maritime security and the protection of civilians in armed conflicts. A key event, an open debate on maritime security under the theme of international peace and security, is scheduled for May 20. This high-level meeting will be chaired by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
He also informed them that during his meeting with the US Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Maria Olson, he had extended a first-ever invitation to the speaker of the US House of Representatives to visit Greece, asking for the assistance of delegation head Representative Vern Buchanan in achieving this.

He said these comments were made during a closed-door discussion organized by the Center for American Progress, a public policy research and advocacy organization based in Washington, DC. The meeting was attended by representatives from several think tanks, including the Brookings Institution, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the Center for International Policy, as well as members of George Washington University.
