"At the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre I met Ukrainian pupils who, after experiencing the terror of the bombs and the violent displacement, found a safe refuge in Greece and continue to go to school in our country," stated Sakellaropoulou.

President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou underlined the need for active solidarity in the face of the major humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, during her visit on Wednesday to the Ukranian Cultural and Educational Centre Berehynias.

Sakellaropoulou spoke with Ukrainian pupils who arrived in Greece after the start of the war, as a total of 34 children aged between six and 16 years old are attending classes in Ukrainian some days of the week.

“At the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre I met Ukrainian pupils who, after experiencing the terror of the bombs and the violent displacement, found a safe refuge in Greece and continue to go to school in our country,” stated Sakellaropoulou.

“In the face of the massive humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have a duty to demonstrate our active solidarity. First of all, to the children, the first victims of this war, who need our unconditional material and psychological support for as long as their country is undergoing this trial,” Sakellaropoulou stated after the conclusion of her visit.
