The common challenges faced by Greece, Cyprus and Armenia, as well as the need to further strengthen the historical and cultural ties of the three countries, were discussed during a Tripartite Meeting held in Yerevan.

The meeting was held between Greek Deputy Foreign Minister responsible for Hellenism Abroad, Andreas Katsaniotis, the Commissioner of the Cyprus Presidency for Humanitarian and Diaspora Issues, Photis Photiou, and Armenia’s High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan,

The tripartite meeting is part of the initiatives that the three sides jointly agreed to in June 2022 in Greece with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which has the aim of further strengthening tripartite cooperation on Diaspora issues.

In addition, they discussed and decided future actions in countries with a strong Diaspora of the three countries, such as the USA, France, the UK and Australia. These actions will mainly concern the new generation of the diaspora.

At the same time, Katsaniotis referred to the Photography Exhibition that will take place next month in Cyprus, with the theme of “three national tragedies of the 20th century: the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the Genocide of the Pontic Greeks and the Armenian Genocide.

In his post, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasised that Greece, Cyprus and Armenia are working together for the international recognition of the Pontian Greek Genocide, the Armenian Genocide, and for the international condemnation of the Turkish occupation of Cyprus.

Meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia

It should be noted that Katsaniotis is making an official visit to Yerevan in order to participate in the World Congress of the Armenian Diaspora and also to meet with the representatives of the historical Greek community there.

On the sidelines of the Diaspora Conference, the Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs had the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the President of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.
