Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias addressed the Delphi Economic Forum VIII on Thursday, saying that “2022 was a record year with 17.6 billion euros in revenues – 2.6 billion euros more than [forecast] in the state budget – with a 20 percent increase in cruises and road tourism and record numbers of direct flights. “In 2023 we will break the record in terms of the average spend per traveller, as a 20 pct increase is expected in comparison with 2022, with a significant impact on the real economy,” Kikilias added.
He also expressed confidence that “nothing can disrupt the country’s tourism product,” as Greece was now “a very strong international brand”. According to the minister, the major wager of the next four years will be to carry out infrastructure works for tourism, while a problem that will be addressed is the fragmentation of sectors and responsibilites linked to tourism among various ministries. He pointed out, also, that the prime minister has spoken of the creation of a fast-track platform that will link all the crucial infrastructure.
