Greece was elected on Wednesday to the Executive Board of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO for 2025-2027.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this widely accepted and highly prestigious election is a clear international recognition of Greece’s role and influence in the international maritime arena, fully respecting the International Law of the Sea, as reflected in the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

As the statement said, Greece, as a member of the Executive Board of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, is committed to actively participating in its work and contributing substantially, with high expertise, to the actions of the IOC for the benefit of protecting the marine environment and, in particular, the oceans, which are a vital common good of humanity.
