Speaking in a recent television interview, Gerapetritis stressed that the active deployment of Greek military capabilities — within national territory, in Cyprus, and in strategic areas such as Karpathos with Patriot batteries and other assets — is not up for public debate or negotiation but a demonstration of national sovereignty and protection of citizens.

“The development of our defense forces… is a matter concerning the sovereignty of the country — it is non-negotiable, not even for discussion,” the minister emphasized, adding that this applies to the deployment of two frigates and four fighter jets to Cyprus, describing it as a “historic and fraternal duty.”

• The Souda base is not threatened, as it is fully covered by upgraded anti-missile and anti-aircraft defenses.
