Parliament's budget for the new year totals €148.9 million

The Parliament’s budget for 2023 and the expenditure report for 2021 were voted on by the Plenary.

Parliament’s budget for the new year totals €148.9 million, an increase of €4.7 million and includes additional costs related to the reception of new MPs, as 2023 is an election year. Also, the revaluation of goods and services due to intense inflationary pressures and the high cost of energy were taken into account.

The expenses of the Parliament for 2023

The Parliament‘s expenses for 2023 are budgeted at 148.9 million euros and, among other things, concern:

– employee benefits (salaries-contributions) which will amount to 112.5 million euros,

– social benefits, i.e. adoptions of children of fallen soldiers and members of the Security Forces. Every year the Parliament spends 700,000 to 800,000 euros, for the benefits to the families of members of the Armed Forces and Security Forces who have fallen in service,

– subscriptions to international organizations in which the Parliament participates in the exercise of parliamentary diplomacy, which is approximately 4.5 million euros,

– purchases of goods and services for which an expenditure of 27 million is foreseen,

– interest from court decisions amounting to 55,000 euros,

– a reserve of 100,000 euros,

– fixed assets,

– purchases of works of art to enrich the collection of the Parliament or the repatriation of important works of art by Greek artists from abroad.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Kostas Tasoulas, spoke of “house-keeping and transparent management of the Parliament’s finances”, stressing that the Parliament is the only body of the Public sector “that not only processes the data up to the accounting level, but also illustrates them”.
