FM Gerapetritis on NATO as a source of security for Greece and the EU

Greece supports the strengthening of transatlantic ties in security and defense, along with the development of an independent and responsible European defense identity, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis said in an article published in Sunday’s ‘To Vima’ newspaper on NATO’s 75th anniversary.

The “longest-existing and strongest defense alliance in global history,” Gerapetritis said, prioritizes the strong defense of fundamental principles such as territorial integrity, respect of International Law, and the protection of human lives. “And at a critical time, with the most characteristic example being the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Alliance’s member-states have proven their unity and decisiveness in condemning the violations of such principles,” he wrote.

Besides war clashes, NATO he said plays an active role in facing challenges leading to destabilization of global and regional security through asymmetric and hybrid threats including cyberattacks, misinformation, and fake news.
