Greece stands prominently within NATO as one of the top spenders on defence, allocating 3.05% of its gross domestic product (GDP) towards military expenditures in 2023.
This places Greece in the company of countries like Poland and the United States, which also exceeded the alliance’s 2% GDP defence spending target.
According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s latest report, 11 NATO members met the 2% pledge in 2023, with expectations that this number will increase to 18 countries by 2024.
The breakdown of defence spending as a percentage of GDP in 2023 highlights Greece’s commitment alongside other nations such as Estonia, Lithuania, and Finland, demonstrating a robust financial commitment to collective defence within the alliance.
