Today, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias sent waves of excitement from the 112th Combat Wing at Elefsina Air Base. “In the next two decades, everything will change, including in the air,” he declared, announcing a powerful upgrade to the country’s air capabilities.
According to Dendias:
- Greece is acquiring a new fleet of C-130 and C-27J transport aircraft, increasing readiness to 12 planes, while Super Puma helicopters reach 7 fully operational units.
- The firefighting aircraft program, including new 515s and upgraded 415s under the “Aegis” program, aims to ensure faster and safer emergency response.
- Since the start of 2025, there have been 1,164 firefighting missions, 1,372 medical evacuations, and 2,148 patients transported, including 33 critical organ transplants.
“You don’t need to be a pilot to see the obvious,” emphasized Dendias, reinforcing Greece’s military readiness and global presence.
The “Agenda 2030” will deliver 200 modern combat platforms, far more powerful than the current fleet, integrating anti-aircraft, missile defense, and unmanned systems.
Dendias’ presence at the 112th Combat Wing and the fleet demonstration in the Elephant Walk was a strong show of readiness and power, while also highlighting the social contribution of the Air Force.
He also paid tribute to fallen pilots, noting with emotion that 166 personnel have lost their lives since 1974 in the line of duty.
The fleet modernization, new acquisitions, and Agenda 2030 mark a new era for Greece’s Air Force, now capable of supporting national defense anywhere in the world, ensuring security, speed, and social responsibility.
