The AKTOR Group has completed, within 1.5 years from the signing of the relevant contract, the project for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of parts of metal structures at the two entrances, the Wall of Nations, and the Agora of the OAKA Spyros Louis Olympic Complex.
The project is part of a broader technical upgrade and protection program for the iconic infrastructure of the complex and concerns structures of high architectural value designed by Santiago Calatrava.
Restoration works
The interventions focused on restoring the durability of the metal surfaces through the application of sandblasting, hydroblasting, and hydro-sandblasting techniques, depending on the level of corrosion and deterioration.
The aim was the complete removal of oxidation, flaking coatings, and chalking phenomena, in order to restore the structural and surface integrity of the elements.
A new anti-corrosion protection system was then applied, consisting of anti-rust primers and high-durability topcoat paint systems suitable for environments with moderate air pollution and increased corrosive exposure.
Structural and connection upgrades
Across the project, corroded bolts were replaced with new galvanized fasteners of equivalent specifications.
Existing connectors were cleaned and repainted, while localized interventions were also carried out, including:
- improved drainage solutions
- concrete repair works
- welding repairs
- crack remediation
Quality control and supervision
Throughout the execution of the works, continuous inspections were carried out by an independent Quality Control Body, monitoring compliance with technical specifications and the progress of all interventions.
In parallel, all works were executed under constant technical supervision and in accordance with applicable European standards for steel structures, ensuring reliability and quality assurance.
Project completion
With the completion of the works, key architectural elements of the OAKA complex have been restored and reinforced, ensuring their durability and functionality as part of a long-term technical maintenance and protection strategy for the Olympic infrastructure.
