BoG: Travel receipts in Greece up by 62.7% in July 2022

The Bank of Greece (BoG) on Wednesday announced that balance of travel services in the country posted a surplus of 3.518 billion euros in July 2022 – compared to a surplus of 2.158 billion euros during the corresponding month in 2021 – as well as a surplus of 7.71 billion euros in the period January-July 2022.

Travel receipts also soared upwards by 62.7 percent in July 2022, and 154.2 percent higher in the January-July 2022 period, compared to corresponding periods of 2021.

The figure for July 2022, in fact, was better than the total in July 2019, the record-breaking year for Greek tourism and before the advent of the pandemic.

The number of inbound travelers in July 2022 rose by 87.3 percent, yoy, to reach 5,277,300, increased on an annual basis by 87.3 percent, and with impressive increases of travelers from the UK and United States, 357 percent and 95.2 respectively.

As expected, the arrival of Russian travelers was down by 85.1 percent.
