The situation in Sudan is “of great concern” to Greece, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias said on Friday in a letter to Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy and vice-president of the European Commission.

According to diplomatic sources, Dendias expressed his great concern for the safety of Greeks, including of the two injured Greeks and other European citizens, following the armed clashes in Sudan.

The Greek FM also underlined the significance of EU member states’ coordinating their efforts, and of the High Representative’s role in helping the immediate and safe freeing of Greeks and other European citizens trapped in the country.

He also stated Greece’s position for an immediate ceasefire and a dialog involving all fighting parties to guarantee security and unity in Sudan, whose security and territorial integrity is vital for the security of the Horn of Africa region in general.
