SYRIZA-PA: The gov’t should send immediately the necessary messages to Turkiye

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, in an announcement on Friday regarding the Turkish authorities’ decision to not allow Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to conduct a liturgy at Panaghia Soumela Monastery as he had done the previous year – as well as the provocative statements made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from the occupied parts of Nicosia, Cyprus – said that the government should immediately send the necessary messages to Ankara. In an announcement entitled “Return to provocations from Ankara only a few days after the restart of the Greek-Turkish dialogue?” SYRIZA noted that “both these developments are extremely negative for the current crucial conjuction, which demands good faith for the building of trust”. Concluding, SYRIZA said that the government should immediately clarify to Turkiye the conditions required for a productive dialogue based on international rules.
