A total of 17 Croatian nationals were detained in three different locations in Greece on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in fierce clashes between Greek and Croatian football fans on Monday night, the Hellenic Police said on Tuesday.

Specifically, a 20-year-old man was detained at the Kakavia border station at approximately 16:00, having boarded a bus bound for Tirana; he is being questioned to determine his involvement. Another 7 people were arrested in northern Greece as they were leaving the country through the Evzones border station. Although knives were found in their car, no other evidence was found implicating them in the Athens incidents; police said they would be brought before a prosecuting magistrate nonetheless. In the Athens area of Ambelokipi, 9 people were taken to the Hellenic Police Headquarters but were released after it was confirmed they were not involved in the clashes.

Meanwhile, of the 98 individuals arrested during the clashes on Monday night, 4 Greeks who had been injured at the incidents were released earlier on Tuesday. Three of them have already testified to police. The remaining 94 will be led before a prosecuting magistrate on Wednesday, while DNA samples are collected from all in order to identify the murderer of a 29-year-old AEK fan, who died during the clashes.
