The Berlin Process Summit that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took part in concluded in Tirana on Monday.

It focused on issues of economic convergence of the Western Balkans with the EU and their integration into the Single Market, good neighborly relations and bilateral issues, as well as supporting the green and digital transition in the Western Balkans.

The Summit was held ahead of the European Commission’s progress reports on candidate countries and the EU enlargement debate, which began at the Informal European Council in Granada and is expected to peak in the European Council in December.

According to sources, Mitsotakis met in private with his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama to discuss the issue of Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himare who has been detained since May allegedly for voter fraud. Greece’s stance, which the Greek prime minister was expected to put forward, is that the issue must be resolved and the mayor-elect be sworn in, in order for the Albania to begin the accession process to the EU.
