Greek Documentary Wins Audience Favorite at Oregon Film Festival

"The Enigma of Keros," a Greek documentary, has won the Audience Favorite award at The Archaeology Channel’s (TAC) International Film Festival in Oregon.

Directed by Kostas Macheras and produced by Michael Dimitrakakos, the 87-minute film explores the archaeological discoveries on Keros island.

The film, produced by Greece’s national broadcaster ERT, has also received accolades at the London Greek Film Festival for Best Documentary and Best Direction, and won Best Educational Film at the ‘Agon’ international archaeological film festival in Athens.

Documenting the excavation on Keros by the British Archaeological School and the University of Cambridge, the film is supervised by Lord Colin Renfrew and Dr. Michael Boyd, in collaboration with the Cycladic Ephorate of Antiquities. The project aims to solve the mystery of the fragmented Cycladic figurines found at Dhaskalio, which do not form complete figures.

Renfrew describes Keros as the world’s earliest maritime sanctuary, first used in the Early Bronze Age. The site is notable for its bronze items and innovative architecture.

The film features research and narration by Adriana Paraskevopoulou, with cinematography by Manolis Vourexakis and editing by Danae Manousaridi. The soundtrack is composed by Vagelis Fabas.

“The Enigma of Keros” is available on ERTflix with Greek and English subtitles, as well as sign language.

The TAC International Film Festival, one of only two public competitions in the Western Hemisphere focusing on films about the human past and cultural heritage, featured 77 entries from 24 countries this year, with 27 selected for screening.
