The Major Reform in the NHS: Adonis Brings Immediate Access to Doctors via MyHealth App

Today at 12:00, at the Ministry of Health, we presented the recorded electronic results of the new appointment system, and I can proudly say that this is the biggest reform ever in the Greek NHS since its establishment.

“Here, all of you have downloaded the MyHealth App. There cannot be anyone in this room who hasn’t downloaded it. If there is, leave immediately. Expelled!” I said during the first press conference, emphasizing the importance of the app that is transforming access to healthcare services.

When we introduced Irini, the key figure behind the creation of the MyHealth App, we had 200,000 users. Today, just a few months later, active users have reached 1.6 million. “Do you understand how quickly this tool is spreading and how more citizens are downloading it every day?” I added.

The MyHealth App is not just downloads; these are active users who regularly use the platform. On this application, we are building the entire framework of digital NHS services, with all hospitals, doctors, and specialties available to citizens.

With the addition of the “New Appointment” feature, users can book an appointment with a doctor at public facilities and hospitals, selecting specialty and location. From October 1, all 127 hospitals in the country were added, with all NHS doctors posting their available appointments weekly.

The results speak for themselves:

• 600,000 calls
• 200,000 booked appointments
• 133,000 through the app or FindDoctor.gov.gr
• 67,000 through the free 1566 hotline

“The 1566 line was designed for 11,000 calls per day, but on October 1, we received 162,420! Yes, there was waiting, yes, the line dropped, yes, some waited 40–50 minutes. But since Saturday, we have added a callback function — the system calls back. Yes, the Greek government calls back!”

Today, the system includes 12,600 doctors, 40 different specialties, over 1,200 internists, 890 cardiologists, and 880 pulmonologists. “We have added 7 million free appointments per year. Each NHS doctor is required to post 12 appointments per week”, I said.

With this new application, patients can find a doctor quickly, without hassle and at no cost, unlike in many European countries where referrals are needed. “Here, the NHS provides access to a specialist within 24 hours”.

During the TV interview on SKAI, I emphasized again: “The wait for free NHS appointments is over. For example, yesterday I found an oncologist at Agios Savvas for the next day”. The system is so efficient that it covers difficult specialties and allows instant searches throughout Attica.

Regarding the electronic health record, “Inside the MyHealth App, you have all your diagnostic tests, without having to carry any papers. By the end of the year, it will be fully functional”, I stressed.

Finally, I presented the hospital self-assessment system. “Today we will show what the system users say, not just the general public. Those who were hospitalized and discharged evaluate their experience — if they found a doctor, if they had medications, food, nurses”, I said, highlighting transparency and commitment to improving healthcare quality.

With the MyHealth App and new digital services, the NHS is becoming more user-friendly, immediate, and effective than ever, and Greece presents a doctor-access system unmatched in Europe.
