The Minister of Health inspected the 1,000+ sqm project and presented the new AI-powered patient triage system that is transforming both doctors’ workflow and citizen care.

At Larissa General HospitalMinister of Health Adonis Georgiadis personally inspected the progress of the new Emergency Department (ER), a project exceeding 1,000 square meters, described by the Minister as one of the most complex projects undertaken by the Ministry of Health.

“During construction, we discovered serious faults in the hospital’s network, so we decided to rebuild it entirely. This is not just a renovation—it’s an investment in public health for the next 15-20 years,” Georgiadis stated.

The Minister also showcased the StapTep digital assistant powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), used for patient triage“The system has reduced waiting times by 30%-40% and frees up doctors to focus on treating patients rather than administrative triage,” he emphasized. Georgiadis confirmed that the tool will be rolled out to hospitals nationwide, signaling a technological revolution in Greek public health.

Official hospital data shows that patient waiting times at the ER have dropped from an average of 90 minutes to just 50 minutes, while doctors’ ability to dedicate more time to treatment has increased by 35%.

Georgiadis also highlighted the critical role of Vermion, the company responsible for the StapTep installation and ER equipment upgrades: “Despite the project’s complexity, Vermion worked wonders. Without their support, this result would not have been possible so quickly.”

The Minister underlined that children are prioritized in the new triage system: “The temporary StapTep we set up ensures young patients receive care first. This is about both humanity and efficiency.”

Furthermore, Georgiadis noted that the total investment exceeds €5 million, covering both the new ER facilities and the upgrade of mechanical equipment, adding: “Our goal is to create model ERs across Greece that provide safe and efficient patient care.”

“By March, when we officially open, Larissa General Hospital will be completely transformed. It will be a modern hospital that respects both patients and doctors,” concluded Georgiadis, commending the Head of General Surgery and the hospital administration for their cooperation.

The project is expected to become a national benchmark for Greek public health, with the AI system projected to reduce waiting times nationwide by 35%-45% and free up approximately 1,200 doctors from administrative duties annually.
