Health Minister boasts of exceeding the 2025 Recovery & Resilience Facility targets—over €1 billion invested in health infrastructure and services.

Adonis Georgiadis, Greece’s Minister of Health, declared that the government is closing the year having successfully absorbed €615 million from the Recovery & Resilience Facility (RRF) for 2025—22% above the original target set by the Ministries of Economy and Finance.

Georgiadis framed the achievement as a major milestone for the Ministry of Health and a vindication of the systematic efforts of the past two years. The absorption figure for 2025 surpassed not just the goal but previous performance, as the 2024 absorption of health‑related RRF investments stood at €400 million—over 70% above target.

A Billion‑Plus Invested in Health Services

According to Georgiadis, more than €1 billion in RRF funds over the last two years has been pumped into modernizing Greece’s National Health System. Specific areas of investment include:

  • Upgrading hospital and health‑center infrastructure.
  • Purchasing advanced medical and diagnostic technology.
  • Conducting millions of preventive screening tests for major diseases.
  • Providing tens of thousands of free afternoon surgeries, significantly shortening waiting lists.
  • Rolling out digital tools such as MyHealthApp and the 1566 system for streamlined appointments, prescriptions, and patient communication.
  • Reforming mental health services.
  • Expanding high‑quality home care for patients

Georgiadis emphasized that these investments are already transforming how Greek citizens experience public health services, with further improvements expected as projects continue to be completed.

 Political Messaging

In his statement, Georgiadis also took a swipe at critics, framing the performance as a rebuttal to “false claims” against government efficiency—portraying the record absorption data as proof of effective governance

His comments come amid broader debates in Athens about public spending, health system reforms, and the effective use of European funds at a time when Greece is seeking to bolster both social cohesion and institutional performance ahead of key electoral and economic milestones.

Georgiadis concluded by underlining the government’s commitment to continued progress in 2026, driven by planning, determination, and a focus on tangible results in public health.
