Mitsotakis to unveil economic measures, opposition parties prepare counter-narratives

The 89th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) opens with high political stakes, as Greece’s major leaders use the country’s largest economic exhibition as a stage for policy announcements, party positioning, and political symbolism.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit the TIF on Saturday, September 6, meeting with management and touring the pavilions. At 19:30, he will deliver his keynote speech at the “I. Vellidis” Conference Center, where he is expected to unveil the main axes of the government’s economic policy for the coming period. On Sunday at 12:00, he will hold a press conference at the same venue.

PASOK–Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis will follow the tradition of the opposition by appearing at the TIF the following weekend, September 13–14. On Saturday at 20:00, he will present his party’s programme at the “I. Vellidis” hall, while his press conference is scheduled for Sunday at 12:00.

SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance president Socrates Famellos is slated to speak on Wednesday, September 10 at 20:00 at “I. Vellidis”, with a press conference on Thursday, September 11 at 12:00 in the “Emilios Riadis” hall.

Communist Party (KKE) General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoubas will address the public at “I. Vellidis” on Thursday, September 11 at 19:00.

On the same weekend, New Left president Alexis Haritsis will hold a press conference on Friday, September 12 at 11:00 in Pavilion 8, alongside Niki party leader Dimitris Natsios, who is also scheduled for Friday at 11:00 in the same venue.

Stefanos Kasselakis, head of the Movement for Democracy, will deliver his speech at “I. Vellidis” at 20:00, with a press conference scheduled for Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 in Pavilion 8.

Meanwhile, Zoe Konstantopoulou, president of Plefsi Eleftherias, has confirmed her presence in Thessaloniki next week, though the details of her programme remain pending.

The TIF, often referred to as Greece’s “political barometer of September”, will once again serve as the arena where government announcements clash with opposition critiques, and where economic promises are put under the spotlight of public opinion.
