Greek Shooter Nikos Mavrommatis Wins Gold Medal at Shooting World Cup

Mavrommatis made a name for himself in the world of competitive shotgun shooting before taking the top spot on the podium at this year’s ISS World Cup Shotgun event.

Competitive shooter Nikos Mavrommatis will return to Greece triumphant after winning a gold medal at the Shooting World Cup held in Rabat, Morocco.

The 42-year-old Greek from Athens has won medals in the past at other significant tournaments. However, his triumph at this year’s ISSF World Cup Shotgun tournament is his most impressive accolade yet.

Gold at the Shooting World Cup

This year, the ISSF World Cup Shotgun is taking place between January 12th to 24th in Rabat, the capital city of Morroco. According to the ISSF website, approximately 222 competitive shotgun shooters from 44 countries are competing in the tournament which began last Thursday.

Since the tournament began competitors have had the opportunity to test themselves in ten different shooting events. The shooters will have the chance to win both medals in the event itself and score points to increase their place in the World Rankings.

During the skeet event, Mavrommatis got off to a strong start but only scored enough to secure second place in the semi-finals with 28 out of 30 shots. However, in the final, the Greek athlete was able to close the gap and secure a gold medal with 38 out of 40 shots.

Mavrommatis made a name for himself in the world of competitive shotgun shooting before taking the top spot on the podium at this year’s ISS World Cup Shotgun event.

Previously, the Greek competitive shooter has won two silver medals at Beijing in 2011 and Baku in 2022 and a bronze at Lonato last year.

Mavrommatis has also set his sights on Olympic glory a number of times. During the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he competed in the Men’s skeet and finished in ninth place. Later, he secured a quota place for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning a bronze medal at the 2019 European Shotgun Championship.
