Mitsotakis on S&P Upgrade: Proud of the Recognition of Greece’s Achievements

The current day was characterized as a significant milestone by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, following the upgrade of Greece’s credit rating by S&P Global Ratings and the attainment of investment-grade status.

“Today is an important milestone, as S&P Global Ratings upgrades Greece to investment-grade status. We are proud of the recognition of our country’s achievements. We are determined to continue our reform program, a path that attracts investments, creates job opportunities, and achieves inclusive growth,” Mitsotakis wrote on X.

Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, described the S&P report as more than positive. He stated that “S&P is the fourth credit rating agency and the second one recognized by the European Central Bank to assign investment-grade status to Greece after 13 years. The S&P report itself is more than positive and so eloquent that personally, I have nothing to add. Those who continuously try to undermine the efforts and results of the government’s economic policy should read it. The country is facing a historic window of opportunity, combining the right mix of economic policies with political stability. It is our patriotic duty to seize this opportunity and move forward for the benefit of all Greeks, especially the most vulnerable. As I recently emphasized at the ECOFIN, Greece, regardless of the outcome of ongoing negotiations in the European Union for the new fiscal stability rules, remains and will remain committed to a policy of fiscal seriousness. This policy is the only solid foundation for maintaining the country’s credibility in international markets, attracting investments, and achieving sustainable development,” he added.
