Greek airport traffic reaches record in Jan-Nov 2023, exceeding year total for 2022

Passenger traffic at all Greek airports reached record heights in January-November of 2023, compared to the same time in 2022 (by 23.5%) and in 2019 (by 12.7%), the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on Friday.

Passenger traffic at all airports of Greece – the Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’, the 24 airports managed by CAA, and the 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece – rose by 9.6% the entire year of 2022 (Jan.-Dec.).

That is, passenger traffic in Jan.-Nov. 2023 reached 69,771,387 passengers, while traffic for the entire 2022 it totaled 63,672,121, the Authority said. In terms of percentages, passenger traffic rose by 14% compared to 2022 and by 13.1% cmpared to 2019, CAA noted.

More specifically, passenger traffic totaled 69,771,387 in Jan.-Nov. 2023, compared to 61,229,394 in the same time in 2022 and 61,665,799 in 2019.

In November, traffic rose by 23.55% (or 2,925,746 passengers) compared to the same month in 2022 (with 2,369,079 passengers) and by 12.7% (2,596,285 passengers) in 2019.

Flight numbers

In terms of the number of flights – arrivals and departures for both international and domestic flights – a total of 24,842 flights were carried out in November 2023 compared to 23, 218 in the same month in 2022 and 23,774 in 2019. The number of all flights rose by 7% in November compared to November 2022, and by 4.5% compared to 2019.

In Jan.-Nov. 2023, a total of 537,172 flights took place, compared to 528,292 in 2022 and 502,646 in 2019, with the flight traffic in the 11 months of the year rising by 1.7% compared to 2022 and 6.9% in 2019.
