Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a groundbreaking initiative by the National Organization for Healthcare Services (EOPYY) to launch nationwide home delivery of medicines starting June 16.
The program aims to enhance accessibility and dignity for patients, particularly those facing challenges in accessing pharmacies.
“This is a significant and emotional day. A long-standing demand for the fundamental right to dignity and state care is becoming a reality,” Mitsotakis stated during the service’s unveiling. He emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare through systematic efforts.
The home delivery service, set to begin on June 16, will be implemented in collaboration with a certified company. Mitsotakis urged citizens to trust the new distribution channel, highlighting two key principles: dignity and care. “It is not dignified for a struggling citizen to wait in line for medicines,” he said, adding that the program embodies EOPYY’s ethos of compassion, symbolized by its logo of four embraced figures. “We will ensure this program is executed with care and oversight.”
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to patient associations, describing them as vital partners in shaping healthcare policies. “You are our institutionalized interlocutors, conveying real experiences. I believe we can achieve much more in building the new National Health System,” he noted.
Mitsotakis congratulated those who spearheaded the initiative and extended his best wishes for its successful launch on June 16, marking a significant step toward a more accessible and compassionate healthcare system in Greece.
