Evia rocked with over 70 aftershocks since massive earthquake

He said that only a few damages to old or abandoned buildings, mostly houses, were located while 12 civil engineers from the Environment Ministry assisted by 6 civil engineers

The local authorities in central Evia are on alert due to the aftershocks after the 4.9 earthquake that shook the area on Wednesday.

The mayor of Dirfion Messapion Giorgos Psathas said to AMNA that “despite the fact that no injuries or important damages have been reported so far, the total of the muncipalities and the regions’ civil protection services are on full alertness”.

He said that only a few damages to old or abandoned buildings, mostly houses, were located while 12 civil engineers from the Environment Ministry assisted by 6 civil engineers from the municipality and another 6 from the region are combing the area for possible damages.

It is noted that the series of aftershocks continue with over 70 aftershocks recorded so far.
