Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said that the conservative administration would support the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry into the Tempe railway disaster, provided that the judiciary presents evidence implicating one or more political figures.

“If the judiciary identifies any names, neither the government majority nor New Democracy will obstruct justice. The judiciary will be fully supported in any request it submits,” Marinakis said in response to a parliamentary question from a member of the populist left-wing party Course of Freedom.

In the same remarks, the spokesperson dismissed claims of a government cover-up and rejected allegations that state broadcaster ERT downplayed coverage of the protests.
