Greece set to increase minimum wage for the second time in a year in May
Minimum wage is expected to be increased more than 2% as announced by the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis

The increase of the minimum wage in 2022 is expected to be much higher than 2%, as announced by the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“I have asked the Minister of Labor to immediately start the process for a second increase in the minimum wage, which will be implemented from May 1 this year and will be much higher than the 2% increase seen by employees from January 1, 2022. ”.

Minimum wage 2022

Minimum wage increase in the private sector, was activated by the Ministry of Labor, from January 1st. The new minimum wage amounted to 663 euros gross.

Mitsotakis: 25% of the catering employees are suspended for two weeks

Today, a new framework of support for businesses was announced.

Mr. Mitsotakis said that “We will announce a new framework for supporting companies and employees in sectors that have been affected by what has happened since the New Year. Specifically, I am referring to the culture sector as well as the catering sector. The companies will be given the opportunity for two weeks to put 25% of their employees on suspension “, noting that there will be state intervention.

Mitsotakis: We want reduce unemployment

Greek Prime Minister was also asked about unemployment in Greece especially among young people.As he said, “we want single digits in unemployment. In fact, from 17% it has dropped to 13% while during the pandemic 50,000 jobs were created. For the next period, he announced the creation of 80,000 new jobs, while he also made special reference to the “First Stamp” program for young people which enter the work market.
