It is recalled that in July, Greek tax inspectors temporarily closed down the famous “Salt Bae” restaurant after discovering tax violations.

According to media reports, a delegation from the tax department visited Nusret’s restaurant and found indications that he might not have been issuing tax receipts.

A surprise visit by tax auditors confirmed their suspicions. In one instance they found there was no receipt issued for a bill of 1,000 euros.

This is not the first time the Turkish chef has been locked down by the tax department. In 2019 when he had just launched his restaurant auditors from the Independent Public Revenue Authority had imposed a 48 hours lockdown.

At the time, auditors found that he had not issued receipt for bills worth nearly 25,000 euros.

In October last year, the Sun newspaper reported that SALT Bae’s restaurant in Mykonos had been blasted for its “defrosted supermarket food” and “service worse than McDonald’s”.

“The up-market joint – frequented by football stars Jack Grealish, Jesse Lingard and Karim Benzema – has been flooded with scathing reviews slamming the quality of the food and “off-the-scale” prices.”
