The target set for 2023 was to exceed the previous year’s travel revenue by 10%, Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said in an interview with VIMA newspaper released on Monday. He noted that the Tourism Ministry was proceeding to make advantageous agreements with the airline companies of Saudi Arabia, while significant progress has been recorded for the markets of India and South Korea.
He made a special reference to the promotion of destinations with a less powerful “brand” in order to boost local communities there, underlining that the occupancy rates in many areas – such as Aegina, Limnos, Symi and Nafpaktos – had reached unprecedented high levels in the last season.
On the upcoming general elections, Kikilias said that the last thing the country needs is “adventures of political instability”, noting that a weak government, a coalition government made up of forces with heterogenous policy platforms or a government that is the product of blackmail instead of cooperation will be a national, economic and social setback.
