Countdown to the deadline for tax declarations and ENFIA clearance

The time is fast approaching when the online platforms for tax declarations and the payment of the ENFIA property tax will be activated, with ministry sources placing the first in the last week of March and the second in early April.

This will mean the platform for tax declarations will open earlier than any other year, as this did not happen until March 31 in 2023. During the next week, Parliament is expected to vote on a legislative measure for the automatic pre-filling and submission of the relevant forms for salaried employees and pensioners.

Effectively, this means that tax payers can submit the declaration with one click of a button, or that this will submitted automatically once the deadline expires. This measure applies to approximately one million tax payers who earned income exclusively from pensions and wages in 2023. This will be a trial measure this year, as declarations will be fully prefilled from 2025.

The current deadline for submitting income tax declarations is June 30, 2024 and the tax that arises must be paid in eight equal monthly installments, starting on July 31 and ending on February 28, 2025. If the amount due is paid in full as a lump sum by the end of July, there is a discount of 3% on the total owed. Freelance professionals, one-person businesses and the self-employed may see their tax burden ease, as the entrepreneurial levy will drop 50% to 300 euros, with another 300 euros added if there is a second branch.
