Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides today in Nicosia, marking a significant step in bolstering bilateral relations. The leaders held official talks at the Presidential Palace, where Modi was warmly welcomed with a ceremonial reception, underscoring the mutual trust and friendship between the two nations.

The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to resolving the Cyprus Question, with Modi reiterating support for a solution based on UN Security Council resolutions, international law, and EU Acquis, which call for the removal of Turkish foreign troops from northern Cyprus. The leaders also condemned recent terrorist attacks, including the barbaric incident in Pahlgam, and pledged to counter terrorism collaboratively according to greek city times

Key outcomes included a five-year roadmap for cooperation in trade, defense, technology, and innovation, alongside a Joint Declaration on India-Cyprus Partnership, signed during the visit. A notable initiative is the establishment of an India-Greece-Cyprus (IGC) Business and Investment Council to deepen economic engagement.

Both leaders emphasized the role of the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in promoting regional peace and prosperity. The visit also saw the invitation of President Christodoulides to India and the establishment of an India Studies ICRC Chair at the University of Nicosia, signaling a new era of academic and cultural exchange.

This diplomatic engagement reflects a strategic alignment between India and Cyprus, poised to influence regional stability and global governance reforms.
