Greek Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou delivered a twofold geopolitical message, arguing that the Vertical Gas Corridor “upgrades Greece’s role while limiting the role of Turkey and Russia,” while categorically rejecting the notion that Athens needs Ankara’s permission for the Greece–Cyprus–Israel electricity interconnector. “Permission, or anything resembling permission, is out of the question because it is not required.
