Over 40,000 people rescued by the Coast Guard in the last four years

The reduction in migrant flows, in relation to 2019, exceeds 80%, while in the last four years alone the Coast Guard has rescued over 40,000 people, said Shipping Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis at an event to highlight the work and contribution of the Hellenic Coast Guard.

Plakiotakis underlined that 19 rings have been dismantled so far and more than 450 traffickers have been arrested, while at least 5,000 operations have been carried out to combat illegal activity.

“Today we honour the courage and determination of the women and men of the Coast Guard who operate every day in all Greek waters, rescuing thousands of people, fighting organised crime,” the shipping minister said.
