Mitsotakis: “Credibility is Measured by Results” – The New Political Narrative Ahead of 2027

In an unusually comprehensive review of seven years in office, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis shifts the political debate from promises to measurable outcomes, presenting credibility and policy delivery as New Democracy’s strongest electoral asset.
Rather than publishing his customary weekly government update, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis chose this week to deliver something much broader: a political assessment of seven years in government and a strategic message about the country’s direction toward 2030.
The timing was deliberate. Three years after New Democracy secured a second consecutive electoral victory in 2023—and nearly seven years since first taking office in 2019—Mitsotakis framed his government’s record as the foundation for its future political argument.
“Last week marked three years since the Greek people renewed their trust in us in 2023, and in a few days it will be seven years since they entrusted us, for the first time in 2019, with the responsibility of governing the country. Every day I strive to honor that mandate,” the Prime Minister wrote.
The statement goes beyond a simple anniversary. It represents the opening chapter of what appears to be New Democracy’s campaign narrative ahead of the next general election.
From Political Promises to Measurable Performance
Mitsotakis deliberately moved away from campaign rhetoric and instead emphasized tangible policy implementation.
“Today, instead of the usual weekly review of government work, I chose to share with you how much our country has progressed since 2019—in a measurable and documented way.”
The wording reflects a broader political strategy. Government officials increasingly argue that future elections will not be decided solely by new promises, but by which political force can demonstrate that it fulfilled its previous commitments.
The Central Argument: Credibility
Perhaps the most politically significant passage of the Prime Minister’s message concerns the implementation of his government’s electoral commitments.
“Nine out of ten of our pre-election commitments from 2023 have already been fulfilled or are currently being implemented. That is the strongest indicator of credibility.”
This statistic is becoming one of the government’s core political messages.
Rather than asking voters to trust future promises, the administration is attempting to convince them based on what it describes as a proven record of delivery.
Drawing a Contrast with the Opposition
Mitsotakis also used the statement to define the political divide with Greece’s opposition parties.
“While the opposition chooses to deny every sign of progress and dismiss every collective national achievement, we choose comparison over confrontation. We choose commitments that become tangible results.”
The language signals an effort to move public debate away from ideological confrontation and toward economic indicators, reforms and measurable government performance.
It also reflects New Democracy’s broader communication strategy, which increasingly seeks to present itself as the party of stability and continuity in an increasingly uncertain geopolitical and economic environment.
Looking Beyond the Next Election
The Prime Minister also framed his government’s agenda within a longer national timeline extending to the end of the decade.
“We are halfway through a ten-year effort to transform our country, with 2030 serving as the milestone marking 200 years since the establishment of the modern Greek state. This is an effort measured not by slogans but by concrete results.”
The reference to 2030 is significant.
Rather than focusing exclusively on the next electoral cycle, the government is positioning its reforms as part of a long-term modernization strategy encompassing economic growth, digital transformation, healthcare, education and national defense.
Political Stability as Strategic Capital
Mitsotakis concluded by reaffirming one of the central themes of his premiership: political stability.
“Our country is moving forward—with national self-confidence, with a clear plan, with unity, and with political stability that provides the fuel for bold reforms and fair changes. And we continue.”
For the government, political stability is no longer presented merely as an electoral slogan but as an economic asset—one that supports investment, fiscal credibility and Greece’s international standing.
The Prime Minister’s latest intervention therefore serves not only as a retrospective review of seven years in office, but also as an early political manifesto for the road to 2027.
The message is clear: New Democracy intends to campaign less on future promises and more on the argument that its record of implementation and institutional continuity provides the strongest case for renewed public trust.
