Pninat Yanay has officially begun her tenure as Israel’s new Ambassador to Greece after presenting her credentials to President Konstantinos Tasoulas. She defines her mission around further strengthening bilateral ties, creating new partnerships and building additional bridges between the two countries and their people.

A new diplomatic chapter has opened in Greece-Israel relations, with Pninat Yanay formally assuming her duties as Ambassador of the State of Israel to Greece.

On September 16, Yanay presented her Letters of Credence to President of the Hellenic Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas during an official ceremony at the Presidential Mansion in Athens.

For the new ambassador, however, the ceremony was more than a formal diplomatic procedure. In her first public message following the event, she described it as a deeply personal moment marking the beginning of a demanding mission at a particularly important time for relations between Athens and Jerusalem.

“September 16, 2026 — a day I will carry with me for many years to come,” Yanay wrote.

Yanay described the moment she presented her credentials as one in which her personal journey, the country she represents and her new diplomatic mission came together.

“I stood there with immense pride, but also with a profound sense of responsibility. In that single moment came together my beloved country I have the privilege to represent, the journey that brought me here, and the important mission that now lies ahead,” she said.

She also highlighted the presence of her parents at the ceremony, describing it as particularly meaningful and emotionally significant.

Talks with President Tasoulas and Deputy Foreign Minister Chatzivasileiou

Following the ceremony, Yanay held talks with President Tasoulas, Presidency Secretary-General Aliki Chatzi and Deputy Foreign Minister Tasos Chatzivasileiou.

According to the ambassador, their discussion focused both on the issues currently facing the two countries and on the future direction of bilateral relations.

“We discussed the issues before us, the deep and important relationship between Israel and Greece, and the way I see my mission here: to further strengthen the friendship between our countries, connect people, create new partnerships, and build even more bridges between our two nations,” she said.

That formulation provides an early indication of the priorities Yanay wants to place at the centre of her tenure: stronger government-to-government ties, broader cooperation and deeper links between the two societies.

A Strategic Relationship Beyond Traditional Diplomacy

Yanay takes office at a time when Greece-Israel relations extend well beyond conventional diplomatic contacts.

Greece-Israel relations have evolved from a relatively limited bilateral relationship into a multifaceted strategic partnership involving defence, energy, technology, investment and regional security.

The new ambassador arrives not to build that relationship from scratch, but to shape its next phase.
