Tourism Min Kikilias: EU mechanism to address crisis and its repercussions on tourism
Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias took part in the EU Tourism Ministers’ Council which was organised by the EU French Presidency in Dijon on Thursday. In his intervention, Kikilias referred to the fact that the European Union can address the humanitarian crisis faster and more effectively by taking advantage of the lessons it learned during the pandemic crisis.
The minister underlined the need for the creation of a European mechanism to address the crisis and its repercussions on tourism and to the possibility of supporting the sector against the problems it is facing due to the rising cost of energy.
Kikilias’ proposal was accepted by his counterparts of Spain and Italy, who urged the EU to move in this direction. He also referred to the possibility of jobs for Ukrainian refugees in the tourism sector, for those who remain for a long time in EU member-states.
