Tsipras: We are experiencing the collapse of the National Health System

Tsipras said that the elections on June 25 are a new ballot, while noting that the historic opportunity of simple proportional representation was lost in the May 21 polls.

We are heading toward the ballots optimistic that we can and will do whatever we can, right up to the last minute, to reverse these [percentages], to give hope, justice and prospect to society,” SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras said during a tour of the Athens district of Ano Ilisia on Thursday. Earlier, Tsipras visited Laiko General Hospital in Athens. “We are experiencing a time of collapse for the National Health System,” he said, speaking to the hospital employees. Tsipras toured the out-patient clinic facilities and afterwards, addressing the medical and nursing staff, he spoke of “third-world” conditions in all state hospitals in Greece that “we do not deserve”.

“We all understand what the real stakes are in the elections. Not whether we will stay in EU but whether we will become Europe, whether we will attain the European average, whether we will have reliable health services and whether we will have a strong and humane social state,” Tsipras concluded.
