Loutses (Corfu) evacuated; fires also raging in Rhodes, Karystos, Dervenakia

A message via the emergency number 112 was sent to the citizens of the settlement Loutses on Corfu as the fire is approaching the area and move towards Arahavi.

The message said “If you are in the area Loutses, evacuate now to Arahavi. Forest fire in your area. Follow the authorities’ orders”.

For one more night the residents of Rhodes, Corfu, Karystos, and Dervanaki of Achaia were faced with persistent fires, as there were several rekindlings with ground firefighting forces and volunteers fighting to contain them. In Rhodes, firefighters were battling the flames in Gennadi and Vati all night, while the situation was also difficult in Malona and Massari. Strong winds are blowing in the area, making the work of the firefighters particularly difficult amid new rekindlings.

The situation is also difficult in Evia, where the fire is raging near the villages of Platanistos and Potami. A message was sent via the emergency number 112 to the residents of Platanistos to evacuate the area.

There is a slight improvement in the picture of the fire in Dervenakia, Achaia, where several rekindlings occurred in the Vouraikos gorge during the night. Firefighters were battling the flames all night despite the difficulties in the area.
