More than 100 homes unsuitable for living following Greek wildfires

Up to Friday afternoon, a total of 184 buildings were inspected, with 158 being homes, 21 storage spaces, 2 public buildings, and 3 professional spaces

Some 104 homes were either permanently or temporarily marked as unsuitable for living during inspections by the Greek Climate Crisis and Civil Protecion Ministry following the fires that broke out on Attica on August 11.

As of Tuesday (August 13), to Wednesday, groups of 60 inspectors in total checked homes and businesses in the North and East Attica townships and especially in Vrilissia, Dionyssos, Marathonas, Pallini, Penteli, Rafina/Pikermi, Chalandri, and Oropos, with the help of municipalities.

Up to Friday afternoon, a total of 184 buildings were inspected, with 158 being homes, 21 storage spaces, 2 public buildings, and 3 professional spaces.

Of the 158 homes, 40 are severely damaged and need to be demolished, and 64 need extensive repairs before they become habitable again. Some 54 homes were marked as still habitable, with minor repairs.

Ministry inspections will continue this week, as will those by the Region of Attica, which has so far recorded 30 businesses affected by fire.
