The latest Prorata survey confirms New Democracy's dominant position while Alexis Tsipras' ELAS consolidates itself as the main opposition force. However, widespread dissatisfaction with the country's direction, persistent economic concerns and growing political fragmentation continue to define Greece's evolving political landscape.

The latest Prorata poll for Efimerida ton Syntakton highlights a political environment marked by stability at the top but increasing fragmentation across the broader party system.

New Democracy (ND) remains the country’s leading political force, while Alexis Tsipras’ ELAS continues to strengthen its position as the principal opposition party. At the same time, the emergence of multiple mid-sized parties reflects a growing demand among voters for alternative political representation.

New Democracy Retains a Comfortable Lead

In voting intention (excluding undecided voters and abstentions), New Democracy records 25%, gaining one percentage point compared with the previous month’s survey.

ELAS, led by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, rises to 15.5%, also improving by one point and consolidating its position as Greece’s second-largest political force.

Despite ELAS’ gains, New Democracy maintains a lead of 9.5 percentage points, preserving a clear electoral advantage.

A Tight Battle for Third Place

The race for third place remains highly competitive.

Both PASOK and Hope for Democracy receive 8.5%, with the latter experiencing a slight decline compared with the previous survey.

The remaining parliamentary parties are distributed as follows:

  • Greek Solution: 7%
  • Communist Party (KKE): 5.5%
  • Voice of Reason: 4%
  • Course of Freedom: 3.5%
  • MeRA25: 3%

Overall, nine political parties currently poll above the parliamentary threshold, illustrating the continued fragmentation of Greece’s political system.

Public Dissatisfaction Remains High

One of the survey’s most striking findings concerns public sentiment regarding the country’s overall direction.

According to the poll:

  • 69% believe Greece is moving in the wrong direction.
  • Only 29% believe the country is moving in the right direction.

The figures suggest that while the governing party retains its electoral lead, public frustration with economic and social conditions remains widespread.

Cost of Living Continues to Dominate Public Concerns

Economic issues remain voters’ highest priority.

Respondents identified the country’s most important challenges as:

  • Cost of living and inflation (83%)
  • Corruption (46%)
  • National Healthcare System (29%)
  • Wages and working conditions (28%)
  • Education (19%)
  • Immigration (16%)

The data indicate that economic security continues to outweigh foreign policy or national security concerns in shaping voter preferences.

Mitsotakis Remains the Preferred Prime Minister

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues to lead the question of leadership suitability.

The survey records:

  • Kyriakos Mitsotakis: 28%
  • Alexis Tsipras: 18%
  • Maria Karystianou: 6%
  • Kyriakos Velopoulos: 5%
  • Nikos Androulakis: 5%

Notably, 21% of respondents answered “none of the above,” highlighting persistent public dissatisfaction with Greece’s political leadership as a whole.

Comparing New Democracy and SYRIZA

The survey also asks respondents to compare the performance of the current New Democracy government with that of the SYRIZA administration (2015–2019).

New Democracy is viewed more positively on issues including:

  • Foreign policy and national defense
  • Immigration policy
  • Public security
  • Taxation and fiscal policy

However, on issues such as inflation, corruption, healthcare and broader social policy, large portions of the electorate believe that neither government has delivered satisfactory results, reflecting continued public frustration with the political establishment.

The latest Prorata poll suggests that Greece’s political system is entering a new phase of competitive stability. New Democracy continues to dominate the electoral landscape and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis remains the country’s most trusted political leader, yet this advantage coexists with deep public dissatisfaction over the economy and governance. Alexis Tsipras’ return has strengthened the opposition by creating a more consolidated second pole, but it has not fundamentally challenged the government’s electoral lead. Meanwhile, the presence of nine parties above the parliamentary threshold points to increasing political fragmentation and a more complex parliamentary landscape. With inflation, corruption and the cost of living continuing to dominate public concerns, future electoral dynamics are likely to depend less on ideological realignment and more on which political force can offer the most credible economic agenda and restore public confidence in Greece’s political institutions.
