"I'm sad about the result, but it was definitely a great learning experience. We need to keep working, and I hope to continue having more results like this. It was a very positive week for me," Arango commented.

Reaching her third Masters 1000 semi-final so far this year and ninth in her career, Greek player Maria Sakkari asserted her status as the new top favorite for the Jalician title after defeating Colombian player Emiliana Arango 6-3, 6-4. Originally from Medellín, Arango generated a triple break point in the third game, which Sakkari rescued and then broke Arango’s serve in the following game. Sakkari dominated the match with 11 winning shots, compared to Arango’s two.

“I’m sad about the result, but it was definitely a great learning experience. We need to keep working, and I hope to continue having more results like this. It was a very positive week for me,” Arango commented.

Simultaneously, in a match lasting one hour and 37 minutes, French player Caroline García eliminated experienced Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka. Despite Azarenka putting pressure on Garcia in the third game of the first set, she missed five break opportunities, unlike the current WTA Final champion, who seized one of the two break chances and advanced with a definitive 4-2 advantage.

In the remaining matches, Caroline Dolehide qualified and advanced after winning 6-3, 6-7, and 6-3, while Sofia Kenin, ranked 53rd in the WTA classification, defeated Canadian player Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-7 (6), and 6-1.
